Yongkang Beef Noodles (永康牛肉麵)

Legendary braised beef noodle soup. Order the original. Cash only. One of the places that makes me come back every trip. Michelin Bib Gourmand. Near Dongmen MRT, Exit 4.

Fuhang Soy Milk (阜杭豆漿)
– Zhongzheng District (🍽️ Taiwanese Breakfast)
Arrive by 6:30am or face long queues. Order thick soy milk, crispy youtiao, and danbing. Cash only. The line is crazy but worth it. My friends from Mexico call their soy milk a soy atole. Michelin Bib Gourmand. Near Shandao Temple MRT, Exit 5. Closed Mondays.

Shilin Night Market (士林夜市)

Taiwan's most famous night market. Take the MRT Red Line to Jiantan Station (not Shilin). Try oyster omelets, fried chicken cutlets, stinky tofu, and fresh fruit juice. Just walk around and try many things. Opens around 4pm, stays past midnight.

Part luxury supermarket, part high-end fish market. Standing sushi bar, outdoor grill, hot pot, fresh food bar. Pick live seafood from tanks and have it prepared on the spot. Often described as a mini Tsukiji in Taipei. Cash only in the grocery area. Near Xingtian Temple MRT (Orange Line).

Two Michelin stars. Branch of Tokyo's RyuGin by Chef Seiji Yamamoto. Kaiseki haute cuisine with Taiwanese seasonal ingredients. Dinner only, set menu, semi-formal dress code. Reserve well in advance. Closed Mondays, open 6pm-11pm.
